What passes through the inguinal canal dog?
The spermatic cord enters the abdomen through the inguinal canal. The vaginal process, internal spermatic fascia, cremaster muscle, external pudendal vessels, and the genitofemoral nerve pass from inside to outside through this opening as well.
What is inside the spermatic cord?
The spermatic cord (Figs 4.10, 4.11, 4.13) contains the ductus deferens (vas deferens), the testicular artery and the pampiniform plexus of veins. Other structures in the cord are the cremasteric artery, the artery to the vas, nerve to the cremaster, sympathetic nerves and the lymphatics of the testis and epididymis.
What is the vaginal process dog?
The vaginal process in the female dog is an out-pouching of the abdominal cavity containing the round ligament and fat. When inflamed or painful it may cause lameness.
What four structures are in the spermatic cord?
—The spermatic cord is composed of arteries, veins, lymphatics, nerves, and the excretory duct of the testis. These structures are connected together by areolar tissue, and invested by the layers brought down by the testis in its descent.
Why does my dog have a lump in his groin area?
Lipomas are common but benign fatty tumors that grow in the layer just beneath the skin. These tumors most frequently occur in the trunk, armpit and groin areas, but they can also grow internally. It is not uncommon for elderly dogs to develop multiple lipomas, which feel like soft, moveable lumps under the skin.
Why inguinal hernia is more common in males?
Although it can occur in men and women, it is much more common in men. This is because the male testicle starts inside the abdomen and has to go down through an opening in the groin area to reach the scrotum (the sac that holds the testicles). If this opening does not close at birth, a hernia develops.
Can you feel your spermatic cord?
Start by gently gripping the top of the scrotum, with your thumb on top and your fingers underneath. Pinch gently so that the testicle stays put and won’t move during the exam. Between your fingers, you should feel the spermatic cord. This connects the testicle to the rest of your body.
What happens when the spermatic cord is cut?
Testicular torsion happens when a spermatic cord becomes twisted, cutting off the flow of blood to the attached testicle. Most cases of testicular torsion affect guys who have a condition called a bell clapper deformity. In most males, the testicles are attached to the scrotum, making it hard for them to twist.
What does spermatic cord feel like?
Normally, the testicles are smooth, and the cord holding them feels like a rope. This cord is called the spermatic cord. Any swelling or lump in or on the scrotum is called a scrotal mass (see drawing).
What is Hesselbach’s triangle?
Hesselbach’s triangle or the inguinal triangle is a triangular area on the inferior interior aspect of the anterior abdominal wall within the groin.
What is funicular process?
Funicular process is patent and communicating with peritoneal cavity only, with no communication with tunica vaginalis. (d) Encysted hydrocele. Funicular process is patent and communicating with peritoneal cavity only, with no communication with tunica vaginalis.
Where is your spermatic cord?
The anatomical course of the spermatic cord is relatively short, beginning in the inferior abdomen and ending in the scrotum. The spermatic cord is formed at the opening of the inguinal canal, known as the deep inguinal ring. This opening is located laterally to the inferior epigastric vessels.
Can the spermatic cord swell?
The spermatic cord is usually tender and swollen. Spermatic cord (testicular) torsion, a surgical emergency, should be considered in all cases, but it occurs more frequently among adolescents and in men without evidence of inflammation or infection.
What is the main function of spermatic cord?
Spermatic cord, either of a pair of tubular structures in the male reproductive system that support the testes in the scrotum.
